Bridport in Dorset is a market town set around a nexus of historic high streets. Known as the ‘The Eventful Town’ - it is famed for its twice weekly street markets.

The town enjoys a number of generously proportioned streetscapes due to its historic role as a centre for rope making. However in recent years the streetscapes have become dominated by car parking and traffic.

With the town set to grow significantly over the next few years, Bridport Town Council commissioned Streets Reimagined to undertake a place and movement study with a focus on prioritising walking and cycling and reclaiming road space for market stalls.

Our multi-method approach included observational and spatial analysis, research interviews and focus groups with diverse user groups including adults with learning disabilities, visual impairments, school children and dementia carers. We also hosted an online interactive map which received more than 400 comments.
