The brief from our clients, Bruton Town Council, was to re-design a complex junction at the main gateway to the town’s historic high street with the aim of improving the pedestrian experience.

The medieval footprint of the town means that many streets are extremely narrow and there is very limited space and visibility for pedestrians. Therefore, a creative and non-standard solution was required that was respectful to the town's conservation area status.

The team worked in collaboration with the Town Council, County highways and local people to develop an innovative proposal, comprising a raised and continuous pedestrian crossing which arced across the entrance to the high street.
