The focus of this commission was to develop design proposals for an historic street which runs through the market town of Bruton in Somerset.

The key issue for the local community and nearby school was the speed of traffic which made it feel unsafe to cross the road as a pedestrian.

Given the historic nature of the street, conventional traffic calming measures weren't appropriate. Therefore, the team developed design proposals that drew on the character of the built form to create an instinctively low speed environment.

The scheme has been awarded funding and the construction phase is imminent.
